Zhou Mi's tenor vocals are crisp and clear, yet full of emotion. There is a certain lightness to it that is very inspirational, giving the sensation of soaring high into the sky, free & liberated from the mundane troubles of everyday life.
When Mimi projects his voice on stage, it rings throughout the entire auditorium, reaching the darkest corners...
Very much like sparkling rays of sunlight breaking through black stormy clouds. ^^
There is a peculiar spirited quality to Mi's voice that somehow allows the listener to feel hints of optimism during songs that are heavy with angst and doubt... a faint glimmer of hope in a seemingly bottomless chasm of darkness & uncertainty.
The true power of Mimi's vocals has less to do with technical proficiency in singing (of which he obviously has a good grasp), and is instead much more about his ability to motivate & inspire others to do their best and live life to the fullest.
Listening to Zhou Mi sing has never once failed to lighten my mood or put a smile on my face.
Furthermore, his solos are not only wonderful showcases of his voice, but also reflections of his beautiful soul.
The vulnerability that he shows on stage is so precious, something that should be treasured by the audience every time.
SJM's debut album gave us the chance to discover Zhou Mii's sweet, sunshine voice. With the upcoming release of SJM's 2ji, I hope to uncover new facets to Zhou Mi's singing and see him push himself out of his comfort zone of pop and R&B songs.
Please share your thoughts (and any examples if you like) on Mimi's voice. ^^
Also, go to this thread for a 12-song compilation of Zhou Mi's live solos from pre-debut to March 09.
Thanks so much to fampar & Swetdeaths for creating it and providing a download link.
